HOMEGARD 1366, Course Code: 6054
Are you interested in raising your own natural food source or are you interested to learn how your food should be humanely raised? This course starts with an overview of livestock, in which you will learn from Deborah Neimann, homesteader and published author, how to choose the right animals for your homestead and your life, depending upon your property, your personality and your goals. Then you will learn how to produce all of your family's dairy products while letting mothers raise their own babies as nature intended. Discover how to choose dairy animals, how to share milk with babies, and what equipment you need to make all of your dairy products. Recipes included! Finally, whether you want eggs or meat, adding chickens, turkey, or ducks to your homestead can be a wise investment. Learn where to buy chicks, poults, and ducklings, how to make a homemade brooder, and what to feed them. We'll discuss breed choices, housing options, and end of life alternatives for layers and meat birds. Deborah's book "Homegrown and Handmade" will be available for purchase at the class for $23.
